Sad to announce the death of Brian Gardener

Brian Gardener 3It is with great sadness and regret that we write to advise you that Brian Gardener passed away on Monday 19th January at a hospital near his home in Buckinghamshire.

Brian had been unwell over the Christmas period and was admitted to hospital shortly before he died in his sleep last Monday.

A remembrance service will take place on Friday 6th February at St John the Baptist Church, Isleworth with a reception to follow at Twickenham Rugby Stadium. If you wish to attend the reception please get in touch with a Newclose volunteer via the usual channels or a member of Brian’s family.

The Island cricketing fraternity is well aware of Brian’s role as benefactor to the Newclose County Cricket Ground and how this has benefited cricket locally. The development of Newclose demonstrated his vision, determination to succeed and attention to detail, which were also his hallmarks as a businessman. Those of us who knew him will also remember him for his kindness, humour and generosity. He was a gentleman and he was passionate about cricket.

Brian will be sadly missed by those who knew him and who worked with him. The Newclose trustees and Newclose CC Committee offer their condolences to his family on their sad loss.

Sincere condolences are offered by the world of cricket to Martin and Julie, on the sad passing of their father, Brian, who was a much loved, respected and valued President of Ventnor Cricket Club & Newclose Cricket Club.

He made a unique contribution to local and national cricket by having the vision and determination to succeed in  ‘founding’ Newclose County Cricket Ground. He was admired by the IW Cricket Board, Hampshire County Cricket Club, MCC and the ECB all of whom have sent their condolences.

There will be an empty deckchair next summer – Brian you will be greatly missed by us all.
