The photo shows Newclose CC committee members and volunteers, involved in the construction of a new timber sightscreen. Simon Rhodes (Newclose CC Secretary) is leading the project and is pictured with Murray Jones (Newclose CC Chairman) and Hugh Griffiths (Newclose Volunteer coordinator)

Simon commented “We already have supporters to help us build the sightscreen and repair benches, however we urgently need a few more volunteers able to wield a paintbrush and help generally. In particular we need people to hop on a mower to cut the outfield or to help with other jobs around the ground, the gardens and the pavilion.”

Anyone able offer their services as a volunteer should contact the Newclose Charity’s Volunteer Coordinator Hugh Griffiths, on 01983 40772 or 07768 552682 or by email at

This year both Ventnor 1st XI and Godshill CC will play their league games at Newclose whilst the IW County Board age group teams will continue to use what is widely regarded as one of the best playing surfaces in the country. This is due to the skills and commitment of the ground’s professional groundsman, Andy Butler and the volunteers who assist him.

MCC, Hampshire 2nd XI and Kent 2nd XI also feature on a full and varied 2016 fixture list.
